- With almost 5,700 hectares, it is 18 km long and 5 km wide, ideal for exploring different types of fishing areas.
- The lake is the result of run-off blocked by coastal dunes around 3,000 years ago, giving it a shallow, low relief.
- The average depth remains shallow(often less than 1 metre), with a maximum of 10 to 11 metres.
- Boat fishing is permitted, with launches at Hourtin and Maubuisson. Beware of prohibited or shallow areas.
Pontoons have been installed, notably at Île aux Enfants and Piqueyrot, and are very popular for fishing on Lac d’Hourtin. Carp are often teased at night!

Seasonal closure for breeding
