Animalia Parc: a haven of preservation for endangered local breeds

Animalia Parc is located in Naujac-sur-Mer, Gironde, in the heart of the Médoc. Set in the Médoc forest, this animal park and educational farm combines historic charm with a commitment to protecting local biodiversity. A former XIXᵉ century farm dedicated to raising game, the site has evolved by adopting an innovative approach to preservation.

In close collaboration with the Conservatoire des races d’Aquitaine, Animalia Parc works to safeguard the region’s emblematic animals, some of which are endangered, such as the Bordeaux cow and the Gascon pig. This exceptional natural setting, combining forests, vineyards and wetlands, offers visitors an authentic immersion in a richly preserved environment, laying the foundations for an inspiring educational experience.

From historic pheasantry to committed wildlife park

Born of a bizarre anecdote (a pebble thrown during an argument between two friends in the 1950s!), Animalia Parc has its roots in the history of the Médoc. In 1961, the Faisanderie du Médoc was born: breeding pheasants and peacocks, commercial hunting with the Club de Chasse des Bruyères (active until 2019). But in 2006, the project was transformed: the XIXᵉ century farm became a wildlife park where domestic animals and wild species cohabit.

The pioneering spirit lives on: in 2011, the park invented the “Secrets of our Forests” trail , the first interactive outdoor quiz in the Médoc. After the closure of the pheasantry (2013), it’s time for modernity, with an aquatic playground (2015), an organic restaurant area with wood-fired grills (2017), and a 450-meter accrobranche overlooking the regional nature park (2018).
