What are the big pyrotechnic events in Hourtin this summer?
Every summer, the Mairie de Hourtin organizes two light shows to punctuate the vacation season. Far from being mere rehearsals, these two events offer very distinct atmospheres, one on the lively port, the other facing the immensity of the ocean. It’s a clever way of highlighting the two facets of the seaside resort: the dynamism of France’s largest natural lake and the power of the Atlantic coast.

What’s the program for Hourtin’s Fête Nationale fireworks display?
On July 14th, the festivities are in full swing at Hourtin Port. It’s one of the two great dates to see fireworks in Hourtin. The rallying point is the Esplanade Christian Renard, the vibrant heart of the port’s activities. The evening is designed as a festive crescendo.
From 9:30 pm, the atmosphere rises with a concert by local artist Guillaume, who prepares the audience for the big moment. At precisely 11:00 pm, the Hourtin fireworks program begins. Bouquets of light shoot up over the lake, reflecting off the water and the hulls of the boats for a double show.
The atmosphere is electric and convivial. Once the last rocket is extinguished, the party continues with a DJ evening hosted by the same Guillaume, to dance the night away. It’s a key event in the Médoc to celebrate Bastille Day.
How does the Fête de la Mer fireworks show work?
On August 15, the atmosphere changes. We leave the bustle of the port for the more solemn and poetic dimension of the ocean. It’s a highlight of your Gironde vacation. The evening begins at 9.30pm on Place Fourès at Hourtin Plage with the start of a traditional torchlight procession.
Carried by families and regulars, the lights dance all the way to the central beach, to the sound of the“Banda Pays Médoc“, a local brass band that brings a touch of authenticity and good humor.
At 10.30pm, the Hourtin fireworks show is fired directly from the beach. Faced with the infinite horizon of the Atlantic, the colorful compositions take on a unique dimension. It’s a moment of sharing, feet in the sand, celebrating the sea and local traditions.
